Psalm 139:21-22

Imprecate – curse

Psalms 139:19-22

We are to Thank God – – – Worship God – – – Confess Our Sins To God – – – Pray or Petition
The word PRAY means to Ask – you haven’t prayed until you have asked God for something.

You can talk to the Lord without Praying.

We have prayed for parking spaces, short lines, health, for the Lord to bless the food, traveling mercies, for the Lord to help our Missionaries, deliverance from sin, the salvation of souls,

BUT HAVE YOU EVER PRAYED FOR EVIL TO COME UPON EVIL DOERS?

As you read the Psalms, God teaches you how pray – – – – and many of those prayers are against the wicked.

This type of prayer is IMPRECATORY – – – – – IMPRECATION is the word curse

IMPRECATORY PRAYER – petitioning God to judge the wicked.

Praying for evil to come upon evil doers.

Prayer is one of the weapons that God gives us that is MIGHTY

2 Corinthians 10:3-5     For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Example in the Old Testament – – – – God had said

Deuteronomy 11:26-28

Based on this truth – God told Jeremiah NOT to pray for Israel’s good

Jeremiah 7:16     Jeremiah 11:14     Jeremiah 14:11

God then tells Jeremiah to pray a curse upon the people –

Jeremiah 17:18

When God instructs His prophets to NOT Pray for His people – But Against Them – – that is God’s Judgment.   Daniel, acknowledges the curse that came upon God’s people when they were sent into captivity for 70 years – – Daniel 9:11

Imprecatory prayer is all through the Bible.

When we put ourselves before God, between Him and those He intends to destroy, and petition to spare those that He has said He will judge – that is INTERCESSION

When we petition God to let His wrath fall upon the ungodly, we are IMPRECATING God to judge the wicked.   James 5:16

God does not enjoy judgment or sending people to hell

Ezekiel 18:23      Ezekiel 18:32     Ezekiel 33:11

We know God doesn’t want anyone to die and go to hell.

So we do rejoice when JUSTICE is served – Isaiah 59:14-15

But God, nor we, should rejoice that anyone ever dies and goes to hell.

Example – The killing of Osama Bin Ladin – May 1, 2011

Example – Jeffery Epstein’s murder – August 10, 2019

An IMPRECATORY Prayer – Lord, If they are not going to be saved – Destroy Them

Imprecatory Prayer in the New Testament

1 Corinthians 5:4-6 & 11-13     2 Timothy 4:14-15      Galatians 1:8-9

There are 7 IMPRECATORY PSALMS – – – – Psalm 35, 58, 59, 69, 83, 109, 137

These psalms express God’s vehement anger against evil doers.

IMPRECATORY PRAYER – petitioning God to judge the wicked.

Praying for evil to come upon evil doers

These are humble, heartfelt prayers that depend upon God.

Helpful prayers of sensitivity – – and healthy prayers of maturity – – honest prayers of transparency – – – and holy prayers of justice.

There are 3 neglected prayers that desperately need to be prayed by God’s people

1 – Lord, Because Justice Must Be Given, Therefore DESTROY THE WICKED

Psalms 5:10     Psalms 28:4-5       Psalms 35:1-8     Psalm 139:19-22

2 – Dear God, Righteousness Must Reign, Therefore DESTROY THE WICKED

Psalms 58:6-8   Psalms 109:6-20

3 – Dear God, Your Glory Must Be Supreme, Therefore DESTROY THE WICKED

Psalms 69:22-25      Psalms 83:1-5     Psalms 83:13-18     Psalms 129:5
