WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DOES GOD WANT ME TO LISTEN TO?

How God Guides And Directs Us

Psalms 32:8     I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

God promises to guide us if we seek His face and walk with Him.

Isaiah 58:11     Proverbs 3:5-6

The Holy Spirit convicts of sin – John 16:8-14

When you were lost, you were dead in trespasses and sin – – The Holy Spirit is what regenerates, rebirths or quickens your spirit – John 3:3-7   Titus 3:5

The Holy Spirit indwells the believer at salvation – John 14:17   Ephesians 1:12-13

When you are born-again you become the dwelling place of God – 1 Cor. 6:19-20

You are to walk in the Spirit so you don’t walk in the flesh – Galatians 5:16-25

There is a battle that is raging until God calls you home – Rom. 7

You are to yield to the Holy Spirit so He can fill you or control you

Luke 24:49 – endued with power from on high

Ephesians 5:18 – be ye filled with the Spirit

You have to be thirsty enough (Isaiah 44:3) to ask (Luke 11:13)

The Holy Spirit’s work in you is to:

Regenerate – Titus 3:5

Witness with your spirit that you are saved – Romans 8:16

Empowers you for service – Acts 1:8

So how does the Lord direct us?

He uses 4 things to guide us

Our Conscience – give to us by God at birth – everyone has one

Romans 2:14-16

God gives us a conscience – – it tells us what NOT To Do

It doesn’t GUIDE Us but it GUARDS Us against immorality

Your conscience is developed by your training as a child and what you are exposed to

What can sear a conscience? – 1 Timothy 4:2

Bad atmosphere/abusive home

Television – Hollywood – movies

Your conscience GUARDS You or Tells you what NOT To Do

The Bible

God gives us His word and it illuminates truth so we can see it and live by it

Psalms 119:105     Psalms 119:130      Romans 7:13

God’s word warns us against sin and what will harm us – –

Then it ADDS WHAT TO DO and gives us principles and examples to tell us how to do good.

The LORD Jesus Christ

Jesus guides, directs and convicts us by His example and pattern

Matthew 16:24    Matthew 20:25-28     John 13:15     1 Corinthians 11:1

Ephesians 5:1     1 Peter 2:21     1 John 2:6    1 John 3:15-16

Jesus guides, directs and convicts us by His pattern.

He shows us a model life with which we can compare ours.

We are to follow Him by comparing our life to His.

We are guided as we try to copy and imitate Jesus.

The Holy Spirit

Our Conscience tells us what NOT to do

The Bible tells us the type thing we are TO DO;

Jesus gives us the example and model of what to do;

The Holy Spirit comes to tell us that sin is wrong, but He guides and directs us specifically WHERE to go and WHAT good to do.

John 16:13

The Holy Spirit can be Blasphemed (Matthew 12:31-32) and RESISTED by lost people – Acts 7:51

Saved people can offend the Holy Spirit

He can be Lied to – – Acts 5:1‑4

He touches your heart to do something, you say “yes” and then don’t do it.

You can Quench the Holy Spirit – – – 1Thessalonians 5:19

He touches your heart to obey and live righteously – – and you ignore Him

You can Grieve the Holy Spirit – – – Ephesians 4:30     And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

When He is convicting your heart not to do something that is wrong and you do it any way.

Remember: When you Quench and Grieve the Holy Spirit – – there is NO PRESENCE OF GOD

The Christian Life looses its joy –  Psalms 16:11

The Holy Spirit leading you in music you listen to –

The more you read and learn your Bible, the easier it is to recognize good music and bad music

Hosea 4:6 – my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge …

You need to pay attention to who wrote or produced the song

Romans 8:6-8

The Holy Spirit won’t lead you to sing or listen to music that is fleshly or carnalGalatians 5:16-23

Remember God’s order of music

Psalms 68:25     The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after; among them were the damsels playing with timbrels.

The Holy Spirit will lead you to sing to the LORD – Ephesians 5:18

The LORD is our song – Exodus 15:2    Psalm 118:14          Isaiah 12:2

The LORD is our audience or the one we are supposed to be singing to

Exodus 15:1-2         Psalm 13:6; 30:4; 95:1; 147:7        Ephesians 5:18-19             Colossians 3:16

Any “Christian” music that draws more attention to musical talent, musical techniques [of the instrumentalists or the singer(s)] or the manner of presentation is FLESHLY or CARNAL and INFERIOR, NON-SPIRITUAL Music.

A real Christian musician MINISTERS: he or she never “performs.”  He never deserves, needs or covets any applause.
If anyone applauds, let it be the One who was honored, magnified and glorified.

A real Christian musician (instrumentalists or vocalists) is deeply concerned with conveying a MESSAGE, not a voice, or a technique, or a personality.

The Holy Spirit will lead you to sing and listen to music that TEACHES YOU – Colossians 3:16

We use music in our services that TEACHES you while you sing –

He Leadeth Me, Majestic Sweetness Sits Enthroned, There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood, The Old Account Was Settle Long Ago, and Jesus Paid It All.

The Holy Spirit will lead you to sing and listen to music that ADMONISHES YOU – Colossians 3:16

A Soul Winner For Jesus, Win The Lost At Any Cost, So Little Time, Our Best, Tell It To Jesus, Help Somebody Today, Brighten The Corner Where You Are, Rescue The Perishing.

Music speaks

Any music that does not remind you of something Christian, Biblical, or Spiritual is NOT “Christian” music.

Christian music will cause the mind to meditate and dwell on –

The love of God, the power of God, God’s mercy and kindness toward you, your failures to serve God faithfully, your need to witness, the true condition of unsaved people, prayer and prayer promises, the person and work of Jesus Christ, the presence of Jesus Christ, the second coming of Jesus Christ, the joys and glories of heaven and the New Jerusalem, your trials, sorrows and sufferings as related to God’s grace, the flesh, the devil, and the joy of resting peacefully in the finished work of Christ while everything about you collapses.

Music that gets your foot tapping before it gets your mind thinking, is music that plays with your mind.

Secular Music will cause your mind to meditate and dwell on and think about:

Express yourself, pour out your feelings, think about life, death and sorrow, suffering, joy, peace, victory, disappointments, tragedies, accomplishments, frustrations, pain, poverty, temptations, success and pleasure.

Wow! Look at the performance; Isn’t that Man wonderful?  Watch me show you something new in music!  Watch me perform!  Look what I can do with the score.  Man is SO wonderful!

By the 1920’s it secular music said:

I want to be immoral. My wife left me. My husband left me.  I’m in jail.  I got the blues.  Feel sorry for yourself.  Blame someone because you’re a victim.

By the 1930’s secular music said:

Swing it!  Let down your hair!  Dance like an animal!  Ain’t it wonderful!  Fall in love, do it, do it, do it.

By the 1940’s and 50’s secular music said:

I love you, you love me.  He loves her; she used to love him, I don’t love you anymore.  Fornicate today!  Young and old there are no moral standards!  When can we be immoral?  She broke my heart; I broke her heart.  She’s got his heart.  She lost her heart.  My heart is running around here someplace, and I can’t find it.  Where can I find someone to be immoral with?

In the 60’s and 70’s secular music said:

Fornicate, pop pills, get drunk, take off your clothes.  Cuss your parents, pass out, cuss the government, get stoned, stay stoned. Be immoral with male and male, female and female, male and female, what’s the difference, there are no absolutes.  Do as you please, Do What Thou Wilt.

The Modern and Last Phase of secular music says:

Worship the devil, he’s a regular fella. Go on home to hell, you’ll enjoy it, that’s where all the sins are that you enjoy. Go on and end it, take a shortcut. Life is not worth living anyhow. Good is evil, evil is good, Yin is Yang, black is white, God is Satan, hell is heaven, etc.

Insanity is the logical end result of man’s music.

When music and musicians ignore the absolute truth of the word of God and turn their back on their Creator, they are destined to end up gently flowing down an underground sewer till they pour, steaming, into a stream of volcanic lava (Isaiah 30:33) on its way to a Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:11-15) in outer darkness (2 Peter 2:17).

The born-again child of God (John 1:12) awaits a much different final destiny.

They are going to be like Christ (Romans 8:29)
They are going to sing in a Heavenly Choir (Revelation 15:2-3)

They are going to “sound off” in Glory, to the Glory of God (Revelation 19:5-6)

It’s gonna make Frederick Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus sound like a mixed quartet of 8th graders.

The only Rock, Jazz, Swing or Hip Hop musicians there, will be those that had enough sense to leave their dance bands when they got saved.

Imagine a choir of 2,000,000,000 voices singing eight part harmony, in perfect unison, with every singer better trained than Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Enzio Pinza, Lauritz Melchior, Luciano Pavarotti, Giovanni Martinelli and Jenny Lind.

ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS NAME, LET ANGELS PROSTRATE FALL!

BRING FORTH THE ROYAL DIADEM CROWN HIM LORD OF ALL!

Wow! Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1 Cor. 2:9)
