Our Wonderful Heritage and Foundation

While living in Landover Hills, MD the Lord was working powerfully in the life of Tom Campbell. He had been raised a Catholic. A Mrs. Pat Williamson had very compassionately begged him to come to church. On Christmas Eve of 1972, Bro. Campbell was led to the Lord by two men, Charlie Hanna and Larry Loundon. The men took the Bible and showed Tom he was lost and on his way to Hell because of his sins and that Jesus loved him so much that He died on the cross and shed His blood as payment for his sins. Tom Campbell got on his knees and prayed right there in his living room and trusted Christ.

He got involved at Lighthouse Baptist church in Waldorf, MD. where he served as the Bus Director and Jr. Church director/preacher.

In the winter of 1989 God looked down and saw the need for a new testament, independent, fundamental, soul-winning, Baptist church in Mechanicsville, Maryland, and God began to work on the heart of Bro. Tom Campbell as he served as the Youth Director of Berean Baptist church in Waldorf, MD. While in a missions conference Bro. Campbell felt the Lord speaking to his heart. Each night of the conference he went to the altar, surrendering his life to the will of God. The Lord called him to pastor Gospel Light Baptist Church.

Gospel Light Baptist Church was started on the 1st Sunday in March 1989. After meeting for 2 years in Allen Lasser’s Insurance building across from the Seven-Eleven in Mechanicsville, the Lord made it possible to purchase the 10 acres we are on today. In 26 years the Lord has blessed and has used Gospel Light Baptist Church to see thousands saved.

In September of 2014, Bro. Campbell called Bro. Nash and asked if he would consider coming here to pray and look around and possibly accepting the Pastorate if God led him. On November 16, 2014, Bro. Nash accepted the candidacy and Gospel Light Baptist Church voted Dr. Gregg Nash to be their new pastor.

At Gospel Light Baptist Church we have a beautiful heritage and a bright future. Come and grow with us.
